Module 2

How has this module helped you think about using standards, CFQs, or formative assessment?

  1. Using CFQ's helps me (and probably students) relate what they're learning to more than just that one lesson/unit. I think formative assessments throughout the unit will also help the teacher more readily assess the student's progress to see if they need to spend more/less time on a subject.

  2. Using standards and formative assessments have been very easy for me to incorporate in my teaching and also through my lesson planning. I had never heard of CFQ's, and when we first went over them yesterday, I honestly was clueless. The practice and discussion this morning, however, really opened my eyes to how we can be more general in terms of the real-world to more specific in terms of our standards and 21st century skills. This will definitely be something that is incorporated into my plans for the upcoming school-year.

  3. Lesson Plan requirements by our administrator has truly kept me up-to-date for including Standards, 21st Century Skills, and all types of assessments in both formative and summative styles (graphics, queries, rubrics, questioning techniques, etc.) However, I have always had to dig around, beg, borrow and steal - actually buy - all of these. How refreshingly wonderful that so many of these assessments, aides, and opportunities are actually "free" with a click or two of a button!
And I really like using CFQs - they help put the focus on my lessons, and that keeps me on top of my game.
Manueverabilty is no longer a problem, thanks to today's class, but what is overwhelming now -just blows my mind - is all there is "out there" to access. And don't get me started on all those unique little options and tweaks we've been learning.
    You are terrific Lynne!
I'm staying HOT for CFQs - still!

  4. I really like the breakdown of CFQs into essential, unit, and content questions. It really makes me think about what I am trying to accomplish in very broad to specific ideas. Student-centered assessments in the classroom also help students monitor their own progress. I am pleased to see that 21st century skills integrate well with existing SOLs so teachers can be encouraged to use different strategies (more technology) to accomplish the same results.

  5. I have found the resources from this module very helpful and I can't wait to incorporate them into my lesson and classroom activities and also I can't wait to share with other teachers. Without taking this class, I may have never known these resources every existed. I have been lost at times this week but during that time in being lost, I have uncovered some things that I will use and make very beneficial to my class and my students.

  6. This module has taught me a lot about CFQ's. I feel like using essential and unit questions help the students to see what they are working towards and why they are learning a certain lesson. My thoughts on assessments has drastically changed. Previously my assessments consisted of quizzes, tests, worksheets, and problems from the book. I know see that there are a plethora of assessments to use that will evaluate my students' knowledge in different ways. We were given many resources today for assessments, and as I was looking over them, I was constantly thinking of when I could use them in my classes this coming school year. I think the students will enjoy the different types of assessments so that they will be challenged in different ways and not get bored with the same quizzes and tests everyday.
